The New York Times Reviews CoCA
Alice Rawsthorn, design writer for the New York Times, reviews the opening of the Centre of Ceramic Art (CoCA) at York Art Gallery.
Perched on a shelf at York Art Gallery is a ceramic figure of a portly middle-aged man holding a magnifying glass. A new work by the ceramicist Peter Meanley, it depicts William Ismay, a librarian from the nearby city of Wakefield who devoted most of his spare time and money to collecting British studio pottery, which has been made by artisanal potters since the early 1900s.
