Ceramics Ireland’s 40th Anniversary

Ceramics Ireland celebrates its 40th anniversary with a members’ exhibition Clayworks  at The Printworks, Dublin Castle from 13-27th August 2017. The deadline to exhibit at Clayworks is Friday 28th July 2017, full details and application forms are available here.

“Our mission is to be the leading resource organisation for ceramics activity in Ireland”.

Founded in 1977, Ceramics Ireland comprises of artists, crafts people, collectors and friends of the organisation who are primarily based throughout Ireland. A voluntary non-profit membership organisation, it is reliant on membership fees and grants.

Ceramics Ireland aims to prioritise activation, education and promotion of the sector to guarantee the future landscape of ceramics in Ireland, while raising the international profile of Irish ceramics.

 

 

Currently, Ceramics Ireland hosts workshops and two members’ exhibitions per year. Other opportunities for members include the Scarva/Ceramic Ireland Travel Bursary and numerous awards. These awards offered annually at its adjudicated exhibition include the Peter Brennan Pioneering Award, Mill Cove Gallery Award and Zozimus Gallery Award. Ceramics Ireland also sponsor an award at the RDS Craft Competition annually.

The Ceramics Ireland International Festival is a biennial event held in Kilkenny; this three day event brings together Irish and international makers for a weekend of demonstrations, lectures, firings and exhibitions. ‘Ceramics Ireland’ magazine is produced biannually and distributed throughout Ireland. Ceramics Ireland works to promote the magazine, its members and Irish ceramics internationally at various conferences.

Ceramic Ireland’s Touchstone exhibition is also currently running at Farmleigh Gallery, Phoenix Park, Dublin until 30th September 2017.

 

 

Touchstone celebrates the breadth of Irish ceramic practice featuring a variety of approaches to working with clay. It explores form, figure, function and installation based works. Touchstone provides an opportunity for national and international visitors to experience a comprehensive body of contemporary Irish ceramics.

The exhibition showcases the work of 36 makers of and from Ireland, representing a critical mass of practitioners. Touchstone celebrates the highest quality craftsmanship; the selection includes the work of established makers, Frances Lambe, Cormac Boydell, Sara Flynn, Grainne Watts alongside makers who are embarking on their careers, Cathy Burke, Caroline Getty and Aisling McElwain. The exhibition includes a selection of archival materials celebrating Ceramic Ireland’s history. Touchstone will tour to the National Craft Gallery, Kilkenny from November 18th – January 21st 2018.
