Fiona Green

Collections Facilitator for Art.

Areas of specialist interest:

  • York Museums Trust’s collections of decorative art.
  • Curating.
  • Collecting.
  • Displaying collections in domestic spaces.
  • Handling collections.
  • Wellbeing through contemporary ceramics.

My background work is in historic ceramics, particularly Burmantofts and Leeds Creamware, and the display of these objects in domestic settings alongside other decorative arts.

Since 2014 I have been working with York Museums Trust’s collection of contemporary British studio ceramics. I work with collector Anthony Shaw on the display of his collection (ceramics and art) and manage volunteers for the space.

I have curated ‘The Ceramic Rainbow’ currently  displayed at York Art Gallery and have assisted in changing other displays and exhibitions.

I help to run the UK’s Contemporary Studio Ceramics Subject Specialist Network and assisted in the development of the Centre of Ceramic Art (CoCA) at York Art Gallery, which opened in 2015.

I am currently doing research on how ceramic handling collections can contribute to the health and wellbeing of visitors and the local community.

I am part of the CoCA SSN steering group and am a member of the Northern Ceramics Society and the English Ceramic Circle as well as being GEM secretary for Yorkshire and Humberside.
